Values 101: Creating the Cultural Conditions for Change
Tue 13 Aug 2024 9:00 AM - Tue 10 Sep 2024 11:00 AM BST
Online, Zoom
Description
Common Cause invites you to join the Values 101 workshop series, taking place between 9am - 11am BST every Tuesday between 13th August and 10th September. If you’re frustrated by the pace and scale of social and environmental transformation, this 5-week programme outlines an alternative approach to change, rooted in an understanding of values and what motivates people to care about injustice in all of its many forms. We’ll explore how we can collectively elevate different values in our mainstream culture - values of care, equality, creativity and togetherness, instead of power, wealth and individual success - in order to achieve durable, systemic change.
Is this course for me?
We believe that all of us have a role in co-creating a more just, equal and flourishing world and so welcome people from many different fields and backgrounds. People who have attended the course in the past have been artists, photographers, film makers, producers, campaigners, communicators, storytellers, librarians, curators, public servants, community workers, volunteers and many more. If you’re interested in exploring how we might shift our cultures to be in better service of justice and regeneration, then Values 101 is a great place to start!
This training is online and you are welcome to join from anywhere in the world as long as you have a stable internet connection and are confident learning in English. (We are working on providing this workshop in other languages, so please get in touch if this is of interest).
What will be covered?
The workshop series will be made up of 5 seperate online sessions. While we appreciate that unexpected things happen, we’d really like everyone to attend all 5 sessions as they are designed to follow on from one another. Below you can see the dates and times the sessions will be held, as well as a breakdown of what we will cover in each session.
All times shown are UK times. To find out the time in your location see https://time.is/compare.
What to expect?
Common Cause workshops combine lecture-style teaching, group exploration and discussion, as well as personal reflection and group activities. Your workshop facilitators will be members of the Common Cause team (find out more about them here) and you’ll also have the chance to learn from your fellow participants dialling in from across the world.
Cost
We cap the number of participants at our workshops at 25. Please do think carefully about whether you can commit to all 5 sessions before enrolling - our workshops are usually oversubscribed and we can’t offer your place to anyone else once the workshop series has started.
We don’t cover our costs in running these workshops. We’re happy with this, but it does limit the number of subsidised placed that we can offer. If you work for a larger organisation and are enrolling as part of your work, we’d ask that you use the rates below, which help us to offer subsidised places to others who couldn’t otherwise participate.
*Please note one ticket will give you access to all 5 workshops*
A bit about Common Cause Foundation
Common Cause is a non-profit that works to champion and reflect the human values that underpin our care for one another and our living planet in mainstream culture. We work with a broad range of cultural influencers to rebalance the values that we find reinforced in our day-to-day lives, opening up greater possibilities for imagining and nurturing new alternatives to living together on our one shared planet.
I have questions!
