From social change strategies to inner journeys: A free online space to explore and share
Tue 6 Sep 2022 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM BST
Online, Zoom
Description
At Common Cause, we recognize the need for both “outer” and “inner” change.
On the one hand, we draw on insights from the psychology of values to re-evaluate the ways in which networks and organizations can support social and environmental change. This “outer” change is focused on cultural transformation and the structural interventions that can support this. It is where our worked is centred.
On the other hand, because our work is rooted in values – what matters to us most deeply in life – we can’t ignore its implications for the personal journeys of the people with whom we connect. Indeed, our workshops usually start by encouraging participants to reflect on their own values, and the ways in which these values show up in the work that they do. This “inner” change is about deeper enquiry into what gives each of us a sense of purpose and direction in life. We don’t have the expertise, as a team, to pursue this enquiry. But we feel a responsibility to offer a space for such reflection.
We have partnered with StarterCulture, an organisation that specialises in helping people to navigate the boundaries between inner and outer work in relation to social and environmental change. We will be jointly hosting a webinar with the aim to:
- Explore the ways in which participants’ “inner” journeys, and their “outer” work can intersect and support on another.
- Reflect on the strengths and limitations of drawing on social science as one way of beginning to navigate in this space.
- Hear where people familiar with Common Cause have aligned this work with other “ways of knowing”, with the aim of deepening their insight on different ways to support social change.
We are inviting anyone who has previously attended a Common Cause workshop to join a webinar and discussion which we will host with Claire Milne from Starter Culture.
A zoom link will be circulated a few days before the call.
I have questions!
If you think you might be interested in attending but want to find out a little more before you sign up, we’d be really happy to have a chat. Please feel free to email Tom on tcrompton@commoncausefoundation.org.
