Values 101: Creating the cultural conditions for change
Thu 2 Nov 2023 5:00 PM - Thu 30 Nov 2023 7:00 PM GMT
Online, Zoom
Description
A bit about Common Cause Foundation
Common Cause is a non-profit that works to champion and reflect the human values that underpin our care for one another and our living planet in mainstream culture. We work with a broad range of cultural influencers to rebalance the values that we find reinforced in our day-to-day lives, opening up greater possibilities for imagining and nurturing new alternatives to living together on our one shared planet.
The Values 101 Workshop Series
Values 101 is our flagship introductory workshop series informed by a large body of social psychological research into cultural values. Over the course of five online sessions, we’ll explore together how we can help build the cultural conditions necessary to see environmental and social transformation at the scale required.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
Reflect on your own values and how they’ve influenced your behaviour and attitudes
Learn about how human values work and how they show up in the cultures we live in
Explore the reasons why working at the level of cultural change is so important to bringing about systemic and durable social and environmental transformation
Develop new ideas on how to work in recognition of our cultural footprint
Meet others in similar roles who are also grappling with big questions about the effectiveness of their work
Is this for me?
This course is for people who want to help bring about social and environmental change in meaningful and long lasting ways. We welcome participants from many different fields and backgrounds. Maybe you work for an NGO, but find yourself feeling frustrated by the slow, incremental nature of much campaigning practice. Maybe you specialise in communications and feel uncomfortable trying to convince people of the importance of regenerating the planet through reference to economic growth. Maybe you work for an organisation, such as a museum, library, gallery or community centre, where you engage the public on a wide range of issues. If you’re interested in exploring an alternative approach to creating change, Values 101 is a great place to start!
Dates
The workshop series will be made up of 5 separate online sessions. While we appreciate that unexpected things happen, we’d really like everyone to attend all 5 sessions as they are designed to follow on from one another.
The November workshops will be held on the following dates:
Session 1 - Thursday 2 November, 5pm - 7pm (GMT)
Session 2 - Thursday 9 November, 5pm - 7pm (GMT)
Session 3 - Thursday 16 November, 5pm - 7pm (GMT)
Session 4 - Thursday 23 November, 5pm - 7pm (GMT)
Session 5 - Thursday 30 November, 5pm - 7pm (GMT)
All times shown are UK times, but people from other parts of the world are very welcome to join. All sessions will be held on Zoom.
If you can’t make these dates, we are running Values 101 throughout 2023, in March, April and September. Please sign up to our newsletter or follow us on Twitter to stay up to date.
Cost
We cap the numbers of our workshops at 20. Please do think carefully about whether you can commit to all 5 sessions before enrolling - our workshops are usually oversubscribed and we can’t offer your place to anyone else once the workshop series has started.
We don’t cover our costs in running these workshops. We’re happy about this, but it does limit the number of subsidised places that we can offer. If you work for a larger organisation and are enrolling as part of your work, we’d ask that you use the rates below, which help us to offer subsidised places to those who couldn’t otherwise afford to participate.
*One ticket will give you access to all 5 workshops*
