Join Commonweal at the Peace Museum to consider how writers over the decades have assessed the success, failures and potential of nonviolent direct action.
We are looking for 10 participants for a Commonweal Reading Group:
To read a book, chapter or set of articles each month (not more than you have time for) relevant to a theme chosen by the group and selected from the Commonweal Collection catalogue.
To talk to others in the group (for about 5-10 minutes) about the context, intention, and content of the material you have read, and what it may mean for current actions for social change to be successful.
To contribute to occasional written summaries, or other ways of recording the discussion so that others can consider the same issues.
Dates:
Thursday 19th June 2.00 - 4.00pm. For the third session we will focus on how non-violent direct action are organised, for example with or without various types of formal structure or spontaneity.
