Environmental Action: Funding, People and Place

Join Community Foundation North East and the Environmental Funders Network to explore how place-based philanthropy and funders can support local communities by investing in and promoting a sustainable environment

This conference will consider how philanthropy and funders can best support local action on the environment. The programme will highlight how the deterioration of the environment impacts local communities as well compelling examples of existing effective programmes and activities from across North East England. We also aim to provide a platform for youth voices on what donors and funders should prioritise. The programme will feature group discussions around the region’s challenges to sustaining our local environment as well as provide the opportunity for delegates to make their own commitments to change and sustainability. While the programme is framed by what is happening in North East England, the event is aimed at anyone in the UK who is working on increasing the support for local environmental organisations.

This will be an opportunity to gather with local and national funders and philanthropists, voluntary and community sector organisations, local government, higher education institutions, and local infrastructure organisations. The speakers so far include:

• Tessa Khan – founder of the climate action organisation Uplift and Climate Litigation Network
• Emma Howard Boyd – co-chair of Climate Resilience for All and former Chair of the Environment Agency for England
• Tony Gates – Chief Executive of Northumberland National Park
