Below is a list of Tours that you can attend during the conference:

Tour of DC’s Bike Infrastructure: Protected Bikeways and Multi-Use Trails

  • This guided e-bike tour offers a firsthand look at Washington, DC’s evolving bicycle network, traveling along Pennsylvania Avenue, 9th Street, and the Metropolitan Branch Trail. Participants will explore the history of DC’s bike infrastructure while learning practical lessons related to planning, design, implementation, and maintenance. Distance: 8 - 9 miles
  • *Rental e-bikes (and a brief tutorial) will be provided. With pedal-assist e-bikes, these routes are accessible and comfortable for riders of varying experience levels.

Maryland Purple Line Technical Tour

  • The Purple Line is a 16.2-mile-long line that extends from New Carrollton in Prince George’s County to Bethesda in Montgomery County, located north and northeast of Washington, DC, with most of the alignment within one to three miles inside the circumferential I-95 and I-495 Capital Beltway. With 21 stations, two maintenance and storage facilities, and a 1,100-foot-long tunnel, the project will operate in a combination of dedicated and semi-exclusive right-of-way. The Purple Line is now over 88% complete. The tour will feature a visit to the fully commissioned Glenridge Operations & Maintenance Facility where the full fleet of LRVs are housed, followed by a guided tour along the project alignment to observe construction progress. Select stops will provide insight into the complexity and scale of the work, highlighting key engineering and operational milestones.
  • *Attendees will be provided with PPE (hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses) but attendees should bring their own safety boots. Attendees must sign the PPE risk waiver before the tour begins. Waiver will be provided via email.

Trails, Transit, and TOD: Active Transportation in Prince George’s County

  • This bike and pedestrian tour explores how Prince George’s County is leveraging shared-use trails and transit-oriented development to expand access and support community-centered growth. Centered in and around Hyattsville, participants will see how trails connect to Metrorail stations and mixed-use development to support first- and last-mile mobility. Distance: 4.5 - 5.5 miles biking, 0.5 - 0.75 miles walking
  • *Rental e-bikes (and a brief tutorial) will be provided. With pedal-assist e-bikes, these routes are accessible and comfortable for riders of varying experience levels.

Moving the Capital Region: WMATA Bladensburg Bus Facility Technical Tour

  • Participants will have the opportunity to visit WMATA’s newest state-of-the-art Bladensburg Bus Facility and gain insight into bus transportation and maintenance operations within one of the nation’s largest public transit systems.
  • Capacity: 40

  • Duration: 2.5 - 3 hour
  • *Note: 8:00AM Participants depart from conference hotel, 8:30 - 8:45AM Arrival at Bladensburg Bus Facility, 11:30AM Departure back to hotel/conference activities. Close toe shoes are required due to access within the bus maintenance areas.

From Bridge to River to Renewal: DC’s Waterfront Transformation

  • This guided e-bike tour explores how major transportation and waterfront investments are reshaping neighborhoods along the Anacostia River. Riding from the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge through Navy Yard, Buzzard Point, the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, and the RFK Stadium area, participants will experience how multimodal infrastructure and trails support accessible development, and long-term revitalization. Distance: 10 - 12 miles
  • *Rental e-bikes (and a brief tutorial) will be provided. With pedal-assist e-bikes, these routes are accessible and comfortable for riders of varying experience levels.

Transit, Construction, and the Public Realm: Downtown Silver Spring

  • This transit-accessible walking tour examines how major transportation investments are reshaping travel and the public realm in downtown Silver Spring. Participants will travel by Metrorail and explore the impacts of Purple Line construction, dedicated bus lanes, pedestrian-focused street transformations, and micromobility on safety, access, and everyday movement. Distance: 1.5 - 2 miles walking

Designing for Safety and Youth: Vision Zero in Arlington

  • This Metrorail-accessible walking tour explores how Vision Zero–driven investments in Arlington are improving safety for children, youth, and families along busy corridors. Centered along Langston Boulevard, the tour highlights how arterial redesigns, pedestrian improvements, and intersection treatments reduce risk and support safer everyday travel. Distance: 1.2 - 1.4 miles walking

BWI: A Glimpse into Airport Facility Operations Behind the Scenes

  • Tour behind-the-scenes of BWI as we showcase BWI's security operations, A/B Connector terminals, and more.

  • *Note: If attendees plan to park with separate vehicles outside of the provided bus transportation, regular parking fees will apply, as complimentary individual parking is not available.

Metro Integrated Command & Communications Center (MICC) Technical Tour

  • Participants will visit WMATA’s Metro Integrated Command & Communications Center (MICC) located at the Eisenhower facility to experience the coordination and management of daily transit operations across bus and rail services. This technical tour will provide attendees with a guided tour of WMATA’s Integrated Command Center, exposure to real-time bus and rail operational coordination, an opportunity to observe dispatch and communications operations, and discussions with MICC leadership and operational staff regarding incident management, service coordination, and emergency response operations, and insight into how WMATA manages regional transportation operations and customer service support throughout the system. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage with dispatch personnel and operations leaders during the visit.
