Bats - A Walk and Talk!
Sat Jun 15, 2024 8:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Conestee Nature Preserve - Fork Shoals entrance, 29605
Description
Here's some awesome FACTS about BATS to get you primed for this fun program:
- There are 47 species of bats found in the United States (1400 worldwide!), but only 15 native to South Carolina.
- Bats are the ONLY mammal capable of true flight.
- Every bat native to SC preys on insects, but across the world bats will also eat small vertebrates, fruits, and even blood!
- Bat populations are declining due to the spread of a fungal disease: White-Nose syndrome.
Now we know you're itching to learn more! Join us for a walk and talk with SCDNR Bat Biologist, Jennifer Kindel, as she shares her knowledge of bats and they're importance to our habitats. She'll be bringing along an echometer to help us hear the bats as they soar above us. Bonus: this counts a night hike!
