Night Hike and Astronomy Adventure!

Do you like Conestee Nature Preserve? Do you like Roper Mountain Science Center? How would you feel about both of them together?! We're collaborating with astronomers at RMSC to bring you a night full of science and fun on International Observe the Moon Night! Your Conestee crew will take you on a night hike for the first hour of our event and the RMSC crew will take over the second hour. The astronomy portion of the event will include a trip inside RMSC’s portable planetarium and some (weather permitting) actual night sky viewing led by Roper Mountain staff along with volunteers from the Roper Mountain Astronomers Club. Some telescopes will be available for visitors to use and we also encourage you to bring your own binoculars and telescopes for some expert assistance in their use! We will look at the Moon, of course, as well as other visible night sky objects. We might just catch a glimpse of a shooting star or two from the Orionid meteor shower, which is peaking that night!
