This training day is for midwives, tongue tie practitioners and breastfeeding supporters.
Join chiropractor Dr Mike Marinus and Erika Thompson tongue tie practitioner and midwife for a practical training day that will help you better understand breastfeeding mechanics, tongue tie, fascia, jaw function, and your role in pre and post frenectomy care.
What will you get out of the day:
- What is tongue tie and how do we assess?
- What is fascia and how does tight fascia affect feeding?
- Anatomy of the tongue, jaw and muscles involved in feeding
- Troubleshooting and understanding what we are seeing? (asynclytic jaw, high pallet, biting jaw, no suck reflex)
- Effects of tongue tie release on the fascia and surrounding structures in the body
- Support and help post tongue tie release

About the Speakers:
Erika Thompson RM BSc (Hons):
Erika Thompson is a highly experienced independent midwife with over 25 years of clinical practice supporting women and families across the UK. Qualifying in 2000, she has worked extensively within both NHS and independent settings, and is widely respected for her commitment to continuity of care and relationship-based midwifery.
Erika has developed a special interest in infant feeding and tongue-tie, supporting countless families through assessment, frenulotomy, feeding support and post-procedure care. Her approach combines clinical expertise with a deep understanding of the emotional and practical challenges families face, ensuring care is always compassionate, evidence-based, and individualised. Alongside her clinical work, Erika is passionate about education and mentorship. She teaches and supports healthcare professionals to build confidence in their practice, with a focus on safe practice, informed consent, and holistic family support.
Erika is also co-founder of the Beautiful Births Foundation, where she works to improve maternal and newborn outcomes globally through education and community-based training initiatives.
Mike Marinus MScPaeds, DC, FRCC:
Mike has been in private practice since qualifying in 2005. He’s the founder of Connected Paediatrics, a platform supporting chiropractors in paediatric care through seminars and online education. He also co-hosts the popular “2 Paed Chiros” podcast with Christian Fludder, breaking down all things paeds with humour and honesty.
Mike is the current Chairman and fellow of the Royal College of Chiropractors Pregnancy & Paediatrics Faculty. He developed and teaches paediatric modules for the Logan University (USA) Masters in Integrative Paediatrics Degree as well as the 15-week competency standard for paediatric care for the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Mike has published scientific works regarding plagiocephaly, ADHD, manual therapy for excessively crying infants as well as chiropractic interventions in developmental delay.
