Marah Ensemble, Autumn Sessions 2026

Marah (Percussion) Ensemble was created with the aim to learn, understand and enjoy the rich repertoire from the Levant, North Africa, Turkey and The Balkans. Participants are encourage to not only commit to the fortnightly sessions but also practice in between the sessions so as to polish their skills and prepare well for a performance in December.

Some of the attendees have already been part of Marah for more than a year and are all welcoming new and inspiring people to join our group and create something new. 

Participants need to already know how to play basic strokes on their percussion instruments (bendir, darbuka, rip) and play some basic common rhythms from the regions. In every session there will be:

- Warm ups, revision of technique and rhythmic exercises. 

- Learning of repertoire and jams.

Depending on the amount of people joining in, we would either gather at Elizabeth's place in Walthamstow or a venue near by in the High Street. 

All sessions are from 2:30 to 4:30PM on Saturday 19th Sept, 3rd, 17th and 31st of October; and 14th and 28th of November. Performance is most likely to happen on the 12th December. Place TBC
