NEXUS - A story of hope in our troubled times (Performance and Q&A)
Wed 20 Mar 2024 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
HQ Urban Kitchen, SA1 5AJ
Description
As part of HQ Urban Kitchen's 'Week of Wellness,' come an enjoy an evening of performance storytelling and casual conversation with storyteller Carl Gough.
Carl will be performing Nexus, a show which received a rapturous response when it premiered at Beyond the Border International Storytelling Festival in 2023 and has been described as a new form of storytelling.
"From the chaos of lock-down a story emerges. Stories within stories lead from rural Wales to sub-tropical Florida, where unrelated events connect to reveal the greatest of consequences from the smallest of actions."
Blending myth, personal narrative and true story, Carl will transport you to the wilderness of the Florida Everglades, skipping through time to encounter vivid true life stories that saved this truly unique ecosystem; a performance where truth really is stranger than fiction!
The show is an exploration, a convergence where everything is connected to everything else and the more you look the more you find. This storytelling performance holds a mirror up to our current times revealing solutions from our past and encouraging us to see the power we are gifted through a simple choice – to do something or do nothing.
Following the performance there will be an opportunity for a relaxed Q&A and discussion, facilitated by Tanya Nash from Future Clarity. We're interested in hearing how people respond the the show and whether people see a role for stories and storytelling in our individual and collective well being (especially in a time where climate change and biodiversity loss are having a measurable impact). Can a story change the world?
Doors open from 6.30pm | Performance starts 7.30pm (prompt)
Indicative ages 16yrs+ (The show content is not of an 'adult' nature, but the style of delivery and ideas presented in the stories shared may not connect with young audiences. Carl is happy to leave this for individual parents to decide).
