Théâtre du Lycée Français, 94122
Description
Be part of the inaugural event in our series leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Ahead of breakdancing's historic debut as an Olympic sport at Paris 2024, we're putting the spotlight on hip-hop culture and sport as a tool for inclusion.
Best part? It's free and open to all!
🎬 We will start off the night with an exclusive screening of the movie Allons Enfants (Rookies) that highlights how hip-hop can serve as a tool for learning and empowerment (in French, with English subtitles).
🪩 Then let yourself be carried away by the energy of breakdance, as a Bay Area troupe will perform on stage !
🎤 Leaving a more inclusive society after the games is one of the commitments made by the Official Olympic Committee of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Together, let's take a deeper dive into inclusion through sport with a panel discussion featuring experts, athletes, and advocates. Find out how sport can break down barriers, promote diversity and bring communities together with :
- Jessica Aguirre (moderator): NBC Bay Area presenter and Emmy Award recipient. She will travel to Paris to cover the Games for NBC networks.
- B-Boy Precise (panelist): Renowned breakdancer and former captain of the Golden State Warriors NBA breakdance group, the Golden State Breakers. B-Boy Precise brings a wealth of experience to illuminate the fascinating history of breakdancing and its evolution as a sport, culminating in its inclusion in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris.
- Amber Sweat (panelist): PhD candidate in French at the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in Francophone Media Studies and Urban Humanities. Her work intersects race, gender identities, technology, and youth culture. Recently, she created a course on hip-hop in the Francophone world – which she currently teaches – at UC Berkeley.
- Alejandra Navarro (panelist): Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Justice at the Lycée Français de San Francisco (LFSF). Her goal is to highlight different voices in the community, ensuring that everyone is seen, heard, and feels a sense of belonging.
This event is organized by the Consulate General of France in San Francisco, with the support of Villa Albertine San Francisco and in partnership with NBC Bay Area, the Lycée Français and Théâtre du Lycée Français de San Francisco and the Alliance Française de San Francisco.
