Art In The Sun

Join us in the wonderful surroundings of The Sun Pub on North Street, for an evening of art, conversation, and creativity.

Each month we meet and experiment with different themes and techniques. Recent sessions have featured watercolour and drawing pens, sculpting with air dry clay, a variety of printmaking techniques, and collage. Doug Shaw is your artist in residence and will be on hand to provide any assistance you might need. We work with a range of materials including ink, paint, drawing pens and more, and you will see how simple techniques can create dramatic effects.

Our theme this time is 'Written In The Stars'. I'm inviting you to consider the signs of the zodiac, the 12 year Chinese animal zodiac calendar, and stars in general. You might like to pick a zodiac theme that ties in with your birthday, or maybe that of a friend? At your request I will be bringing the inks and bleach along again so if you really liked that - you can have another play. The ink will also lend itself to Chinese calligraphy if you'd like to give that a go too? Here's a quick doodle experiment I tried - using a scratchy old pen on some textured dark paper.

No experience is necessary, we welcome people of all abilities. The most important things to bring with you are your enthusiasm, and a willingness to try something new.
