Sheep Drive 2026 - Southwark Bridge

Join the Coopers on Southwark Bridge for the 2026 Sheep Drive - one of the City of London's oldest and most loved traditions.

Every autumn, the Worshipful Company of Woolmen brings an ancient custom back to life: the historic right of Freemen of the City to drive livestock toll-free across the bridge, dating back to when sheep were driven to market through the City and Freemen were exempt from the crossing charge. What was once a serious economic privilege is now one of the highlights of the City calendar! Over a thousand Freemen taking to the bridge each year, sheep and all, in front of a very entertained crowd.

The Coopers' Society has secured its own place in this year's Drive, with our slot starting at 2:14pm on Southwark Bridge (SE1 9HL) on Sunday 27 September 2026. Arrive with time to spare - most teams are asked to register around 30 minutes ahead of their slot, so plan to be there from about 1:45pm.

Once you've driven your sheep, stay on for the Livery & Wool Fair at the north end of the bridge (Queen Street / Queen Street Place) - shearing demonstrations, rare-breed sheep, food and drink, and stalls from fellow livery companies.
