Generational differences: Adoptee Conversation Panel with In-Between Lines

To mark the start of National Adoption Week, join In-Between Lines for a conversation panel with Debbie Iromlou, of the Adult Adoptee Movement. Peer support for adoptees is critical to develop a sense of community, and to understand their life narrative within a larger societal context. However, adoptees often find themselves isolated from their wider community, missing out on the resources and wisdom of people who've been where they are.

Following our last exhibition in London, we felt it was important to create an event that included a generational perspective. This event will touch themes of adoptee healing, transracial adoption, processing identity over the years, and the importance of the adoptee perspective. We'll examine the intergenerational differences and attitudes towards adoption, as well as the enduring themes that mark the adoptee experience regardless of age.

In-Between Lines is an award-winning community exploring the lived experience of multiple cultural, ethnic, or family identities e.g.: adoptees, mixed-heritage, third-culture kids, and immigrants. Originally a student project, In-Between Lines has toured the country, working with organisations such as the University of Exeter, Leeds Beckett University, and Mind. Over 180 tickets have been sold for our conversation panels, poetry nights, and workshops, and we’ve recently won a Marsh Award for our peer support work. We've launched a website, where we host resources and will commission individuals to tell their story through art, blogs, poetry, and film.
