Improving the way Ofsted inspects children’s social care: children in care online session

Ofsted wants to hear from you!

Ofsted is looking at changing the way it inspects children’s social care, and wants children and young people to help shape what inspections should look like in the future.

Join us for an interactive online session where you can share what you think, what matters to you, and what you think Ofsted should do differently.

Who is this session for?

This session is specifically for children in care.

Adults and professionals may only attend where they are supporting a child or young person to take part. For example, you might join together from the same room, or a worker may join separately to provide support where needed.

Please do not register to attend solely as a professional or observer. We want to keep this a youth-led space where children and young people’s voices are at the centre.

What is the consultation about?

Ofsted inspects children’s social care services, including local authority children’s services, children’s homes and fostering agencies.

It is currently consulting on changes to how these inspections work and wants to hear directly from children and young people about things including:

• how important relationships and connections should be considered during inspections
• how inspectors can check that adults and services are working well together
• how inspectors can better hear from children and young people
• proposed changes to the way services are rated
• how inspection findings should be shared and reported

Changing how Ofsted inspects children’s social care: a quick summary

What will the session be like?

The session will be interactive and informal, with different ways to get involved. You will be able to share your views aloud, use the chat, respond anonymously through tools such as Mentimeter, and take part in activities and discussions.

There is no pressure to speak aloud. You can contribute in whatever way feels most comfortable for you.

If you are a worker supporting several children or young people to join together from the same room, we would also love to receive anything your group creates during the session. This could include photos of flipcharts, notes, drawings or other activity work.
