Join us in Athens for ARGO the New Nuclear in Greek Maritime conference, where maritime vision meets cutting-edge nuclear technology. As global industries seek sustainable, scalable solutions to meet energy demands and decarbonisation goals, nuclear has re-emerged as a viable and transformative option.

This high-level Greek event brings together industry leaders to explore the challenges and opportunities of integrating nuclear into the shipping industry and Mediterranean energy mix.

Agenda:

1.30pm - 2.15pm: Registration

2.15pm - 2.30pm: Welcome and Introductions by Conference Chair Charlotte Vere

2.30pm - 3.15pm: Maritime Nuclear: Delivering Safe, Scalable and Modular Solutions presentation by Ioannis Kourasis followed by Q&A

As the maritime industry pursues decarbonization and energy resilience, advanced nuclear technologies offer a promising path forward. This panel explores the technical innovations enabling nuclear systems tailored for the maritime environment. This session will examine how new nuclear technologies are being engineered for shipboard and offshore environments, with a focus on scalability and modular manufacturing. Join us to discuss what it takes to move from concept to deployment—and how technology is shaping the next generation of maritime energy infrastructure.

3.15pm - 4pm: Nuclear-Powered Horizons: Building the Business Case for Maritime Deployment presentation by Thomas Davies followed by Q&A

The case for new nuclear for maritime is gaining momentum—but unlocking deployment requires more than technical readiness. Advanced nuclear technologies open new possibilities across the maritime sector—from powering large commercial vessels and naval fleets to supporting offshore platforms, port electrification, and energy access for remote coastal regions. This session dives into the business models and market strategies as well as explores the diverse operational roles that new nuclear can play.

4pm - 4.30pm: Coffee Break

4.30pm - 5pm: Regulatory Readiness for Maritime Nuclear presentation by Unni Einemo followed by Q&A

Deploying nuclear at sea demands coordination across nuclear, maritime, and environmental regulatory frameworks. This session examines the current landscape of rules, gaps, and emerging pathways—from licensing and safety to international oversight and flag-state jurisdiction, discussing what regulations are needed to enable first-of-a-kind deployments and build global confidence in maritime nuclear operations.

5pm - 5.45pm: The future of Nuclear in Greece

CORE POWER is working on a project alongside ABS and Athlos Energy to explore the potential of deploying FNPPs in the Mediterranean Sea. The joint effort will assess how floating nuclear platforms—powered by small modular reactors (SMRs)—can address growing energy demands in remote and coastal areas of the Mediterranean. This includes supplying grid-scale electricity to islands, supporting zero-emission port operations, and powering desalination plants to provide potable water in drought-affected regions. In this session, the project team from CORE POWER, Athlos Energy and ABS will host a discussion and Q&A.

5.45pm - 6pm: Closing Remarks

6pm - 9pm: Cocktail Reception
