As global shipping sees increasingly volatile fuel prices, tightening emissions requirements, and continued uncertainty over the availability, scalability, and cost of alternative fuels, nuclear energy is emerging as a credible pathway for large ocean-going fleets seeking predictable operating costs and higher performance.

Beyond commercial shipping, advanced nuclear technology is also being developed for floating nuclear power plants, or ‘power ships’. These nearshore assets can deliver clean, reliable, relocatable electricity in coastal waters, helping to meet rising demand while strengthening energy security and grid resilience

CORE POWER will host an executive briefing for senior leaders across the maritime and energy sectors on the role of nuclear technologies in commercial shipping and nearshore energy generation. The session will explore how nuclear propulsion can enhance fleet competitiveness, reduce exposure to fuel price volatility, and support compliance with emissions targets.

It will also examine deployment models and regional opportunities for ‘power ships’ as a practical, scalable addition to coastal energy systems.

AGENDA HIGHLIGHTS:

Introduction to Nuclear in Maritime

The strategic role of nuclear in shipping and nearshore power generation.

Capital, Cost, and Efficiency: Nuclear’s Role in Shipping
Voyage economics, long-term cost stability, and emissions reduction potential.

Designing Nuclear for Shipping
Integration into ship design and operations, class and regulatory pathways, safety frameworks, and technology selection criteria.

Nuclear for Coastal Energy Generation

Fireside chat on the CORE POWER, ABS, and Athlos Energy Joint Development Project in the Mediterranean, focused on collaboration, classification society engagement, and the role of nuclear ‘power ships’ in Mediterranean energy security.
