Step Aboard a British Aviation Icon: The Negus 747 Experience ✈️
Prepare to walk through the doors of one of the most recognisable aircraft in aviation history, British Airways Boeing 747-436, G-CIVB, fondly known as “Negus.”
This is a self-guided tour, giving you the freedom to explore the aircraft at your own pace while taking in the remarkable engineering, history and atmosphere of one of the last remaining passenger-ready 747s in the world.
What to Expect
Once onboard, you’ll move through the cabin just as tens of thousands of passengers once did, experiencing the aircraft layout exactly as it was during its commercial service life.
Your visit includes access to the following:
🟦 Main Deck Cabin
Walk the full length of the aircraft’s spacious economy cabin and get a true sense of the scale of the 747, famously nicknamed “The Queen of the Skies.”
Panels, fittings and seating remain original, giving you an authentic snapshot of long-haul travel as it was in service.
🟩 Upper Deck – “The Bubble”
Ascend the staircase to the exclusive upper cabin — once reserved for business-class passengers and VIPs.
This intimate space became one of the most desirable places to sit onboard any commercial airliner, offering a quieter, more private flying experience.
🟨 Cockpit Viewing
At the front of the aircraft, you’ll have the opportunity to view the iconic 747 flight deck, complete with original instruments, controls, and flight systems.
This isn’t a replica — this is where the aircraft was actually flown for 22 years of service around the globe.
A Brief History of Negus
- Delivered: 1994
- Total distance flown: Over 60 million miles
- Final commercial flight: 2020
- Retirement & Preservation Location: Cotswold Airport
During her career, G-CIVB carried passengers to destinations including New York, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, Dubai, Tokyo, and beyond.
In 2020, as the Boeing 747 fleet retired early due to global events and industry change, this aircraft received the retired “Negus” British Airways heritage livery — a paint scheme originally used in the 1970s and early 1980s.
It now stands as the only 747 in the world permanently preserved in this livery.
