Women Who Build Scotland

'Explore some of the women who help to shape, design and build Scotland. Our speakers will include Dr Robyne Calvert and Phyllida Shaw. Robyne is a researcher, lecturer and public historian and will be discussing Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh and her career with a focus on Macdonald's gesso panels. Phyllida was left Morris Meredith Williams’s sketchbooks and letters by his second wife, her great aunt. She has worked as a researcher and writer in the cultural sector for thirty years. As a freelance journalist she has written for Museums Journal, Classical Music, The Royal Academy Magazine and the Journal of the Scottish Society for Art History, among others. She will be talking abou Alice Meredith Williams and her connection to Scotland. This event is part of Doors Open Day 2026.'
