Most Gabriolans will be familiar with Paul Gellman, who lives and breathes on Gabriola and has been an integral part of our vibrant music scene. Paul is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (piano, guitar, violin) whose soul-based songs have lifted spirits on and off the island for many years.
Paul was a member of Ontario-based Perth County Conspiracy in the ‘70s, and later formed the band Island when he moved back to the West Coast. He has been musical director for several theme-based shows over the past few years, and has hosted many concerts and dances featuring his own band. A new album of originals is in the works, with an expected release date in June!
Besides performing, Paul provides ongoing coaching for aspiring musicians, and holds regular weekly music workshops for people at all levels of musical experience. He has also been a sideman for many artists both on the island and off, most recently Bob Bossin, Michael Friedman, Frank Patrick and others.
Paul’s performances include his wonderful original tunes, and there is always room for audience participation, so get ready to join in!
How do Couch Fest concerts work?
Artists receive 100% of profits and donations from Couch Fest!
Once you buy your individual tickets or festival pass, you'll receive an email confirmation, with the links to the livestream(s).
Couch Fest will happen on Zoom videoconferencing. Each concert happens in a different "room", so you'll use different links for each show.
We want to create that intimate concert vibe that Gabriolans know and love from live events. A concert host will be on-hand to introduce the musicians and host a short post-show with the performers.
We encourage you to make an event of it! Put a blanket out on the lawn, connect some good speakers, order takeout from one of great Gabriola restaurants, and serve up some special drinks.
We also ask you to not share the links with others who haven't bought a ticket.
Why Couch Fest?
Couch Fest is an initiative of the Gabriola Chamber of Commerce, supported by Gabriola Songs, to help support artists who have lost work due to COVID-19. We recognize how important performers are to our island culture and economy.
