Saturday Studios – Landmarks
Saturday Studios – Landmarks
Need help?
Join public artist Maya Rose Edwards for a creative workshop at Cove Park ahead of their commission on the Highland Boundary Fault to be installed September this year. Maya invites local young people and their families to take part in activities exploring ideas of ‘landmarking’. What is a landmark? Who gets to decide what deserves a landmark? In what ways does the land create marks itself?
Using natural materials and sculptural processes taking inspiration from the location of Cove Park and its proximity to the Highland Boundary Fault, participants will create their own mythical landmarks and collect clues of the vast geological history beneath their feet.
The workshop takes place twice across the day - please book your preferred time 10-12noon or 2-4pm
(aged 7+, all children to be accompanied by an adult, we will be working both inside and outside so please ensure you are dressed for the Scottish weather!)
Community Geology Walk
As part of the Highland Boundary Commission Maya will be taking part in a community walk with Geologist Bill Henderson on the 11th of June, see below.
You are very welcome to come along to this: to book a place, please contact Cat Auburn at artsgroup@coveandkilcreggancommunity.com
Support
Cove Park is a charity and most of our funding for our residencies and engagement workshops is paid by trusts, foundations and individual donors. Creative Scotland currently funds just 25% of our annual costs and individual philanthropy is essential to sustain our work.
Our Saturday Studio programme provides an inspiring environment for self-expression through creative education. Without this engagement initiative, young people in our rural community would not have access to free and consistent creative activity. Cove Park's new Argyll Associates programme invites individuals and families based locally to become a partner in helping us to enrich arts, culture, and creativity in Argyll. If you would like to help underwrite the costs required to keep our Saturday Studio workshops free and open, you can join our Argyll Associates programme or give a donation when booking.
