Nothing beats the cut and feel of a properly sharpened hand saw. In this two-day class, professional saw doctor Matt Cianci will guide students through the critical steps of sharpening rip and crosscut hand saws used in woodworking. Students will learn the four functional elements of all Western saw teeth including tooth spacing, rake, set and bevel, along with the necessary tools and techniques used in sharpening. Matt will guide students through filing rip and crosscut toothed saws in detail, including the unique elements of joinery saws like dovetail and carcase saws as well as full-size handsaws used for cuts in larger material.
Class fee is $425. Saw vises will be provided for each student.
Required Tool List:
• One rip hand saw and one crosscut hand saw for practice (Don't bring nice saws to learn on! Old handsaws can easily be found at flea markets,
yard sales, etc. for a few dollars each. Bring several if possible.)
• Saw set- pistol grip style is best (Stanley 42, 42x, 42s/w, Millers Falls 214)
• Taper saw files with handles: A full set for sharpening saws from 3 to 20 points includes:
- 7" or 8" Regular Taper (7R or 8R)
