From Ebworth to Saltridge and St George’s Field: A Walk with Stories from Local History

Join our Stroud District Committee as we celebrate CPRE's Love Your Countryside month!

To mark this special occasion and enjoy the beauty of Gloucestershire's countryside, we invite you to join us for a scenic circular walk from the Old Ebworth Centre, nestled between Cranham and Sheepscombe, by kind permission of the National Trust.

The walk will be led by Elisabeth Skinner, a local historian from Sheepscombe, who will bring the countryside to life with fascinating stories of the area's history and heritage as we make our way across fields and through ancient woodland....

• ...so who was the rogue who owned Ebworth’s Georgian mansion in 1812
• ...and where will you find a Victorian dew pond?
• ...why is the track alongside the woods called Saltridge?
• ...what is Laurie Lee’s connection with the cricket ground and who thought they saw an angel from St George’s Field?

Event information

There is parking at the end of the drive from the B4070 to Ebworth (GL6 7ES) where the walk starts at 2.00pm. 

The walk should take about two hours. There is one low stile and gradual climbs in places. Dogs are welcome to join the walk but must be on leads.

There will be soft drinks and cake at the end of the walk at Ebworth.

There are only 12 places on the walk so be sure to book in good time!
