Do you love nature — but wish you could do more to protect it?
Join us for a day of learning, exploration, and practical action. This friendly event is designed for anyone who cares about the plants and wildlife around them and wants to make a real difference. We'll cover the basics of nature recording, explain how it can help to protect the spaces around you and introduce you to the world of citizen science.
What is citizen science?
Citizen science is simply ordinary people paying attention to the nature around them — and turning that attention into valuable data that scientists, conservationists, and planners can use to protect wildlife and green spaces.
What's the day about?
🌿 10-11.30am - Morning Workshop Discover why biological records matter and how your observations can contribute to conservation. We'll demonstrate the best apps for recording wildlife and how to use them, so you leave feeling confident and equipped to make a difference in your local area.
☕ Midday Break Take a breather! Bring a picnic or grab a snack in the museum café.
🦋 12 - 2pm - Afternoon Nature Walk A gentle guided walk through Spiceball Park, with hands-on activities to bring the morning's learning to life — and the chance to start recording the nature you see for real.
Who's behind it? This event is organised by CPRE Oxfordshire, in collaboration with CAG Oxfordshire, and supported by local environmental record centre TVERC.
The sessions will be led by citizen scientist & wildlife campaigner, Lisa Phipps, and Dr Julian Parfitt, a biodiversity and mapping advisor who works recording local biodiversity and supporting local nature recovery projects.
All are welcome — no experience necessary. Just bring your curiosity!
