Building better places

How can we create homes not units and somewhere not nowhere?

Build, build, build: our new Government has a clear mandate to build new homes. Lots of them! This means big changes are coming for many of our villages and market towns here in Somerset.

We need to make sure that these new housing developments are designed well. We should bring nature and community spaces into the heart of new developments. No more car-centred, identikit housing estates plonked on the edge of our settlements. Let’s aim for “gentle density” places with clever layouts and with sustainability built-in.

Nicholas Boys Smith has championed these ideas for years and we are thrilled that he will be our speaker for this event. 

Nicholas is the Founder and Chair of Create Streets and has recently been appointed as Chair of the new Government body, the Office for Place.

Tickets are free of charge for CPRE members and £5 for non-members. You can also give a donation to help cover our costs.

NB: The event will end at 2.30pm and, after a short break, will be followed by the CPRE Somerset AGM which should run until 4.00pm. Non CPRE members are very welcome to stay for the AGM.
