This immersive, one-day workshop led by VIKTORSHA ULIYANOVA introduces how to create beautiful handmade blueprints on fabric using digitally printed negatives. Cyanotype is one of the oldest alternative photographic processes that was developed in 1852. It uses non-toxic chemicals, ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide to create a UV sensitive solution which produces vibrant Prussian blue colors. Participants will learn how to mix chemistry, coat fabric, and transform their digital files into digitally printed negatives in CPW's Digital Media Lab. Students will leave with 2 final cyanotypes on 8x10 fabric, and 2 different digital negatives that they can continue to use again and again.
WHAT TO BRING: Students are encouraged to bring 2 image files to transform into a digital negatives– these can be snapshots from a phone or digital artworks. All other materials will be provided.
Students can also choose to print directly on their own materials, so feel free to bring a t-shirt or pieces of fabric (natural fibers only, up to 8x10) if preferred.
