In this two-day workshop, students will explore the ins and outs of pre-press, a crucial step in ensuring files are properly prepared for book printing. The curriculum covers standard pre-press workflows in InDesign and Acrobat, along with book setup, manual imposition, cut-sheet configuration, file organization, and the inclusion of typography and image. Instruction begins with demonstrations before transitioning into project-specific guidance tailored to individual participants. Students will need to have a computer capable of running the Adobe Suite and files ready to work with. The course will be offered in both July and August.

WHAT TO BRING: Students should bring a laptop, and image/text files to work with. If working on a book project already, bring all your materials, both digital and physical, incuding any book dummys. If you don't already have InDesign installed on your personal computer, there are 7-day free trials available. Students can either choose to continue using on their own computers after the workshop, or utilize the whole Adobe Suite (which includes InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator) in CPW's Digital Media Lab moving forward.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
VLADIMIR NAHITCHEVANSKY is the founder of Kingston-based print studio and publishing imprint 1080PRESS. He is a poet, offset-press operator, book collector, and print nerd. Copies of 1080PRESS books are available through Asterism Distribution.
