"Meet the Artist" with Cansu Korkmaz

On Thursday, November 12, we welcome Cansu Korkmaz to “Meet the Artist.” Korkmaz will present her self-published photobook, Quite a While, alongside the body of photographic work from which it emerged. She will discuss the project’s development, its exploration of memory, intimacy, displacement, and personal history, and how she transformed photographs into a book through fragmentation, sequencing, and collage. Korkmaz will have copies of her book for sale throughout the evening. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s YouTube page at 6pm. 

Join us on select Thursday evenings at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 25 Dederick Street in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served.

Cansu Korkmaz is a Turkish-born visual artist based in Brooklyn whose practice centers on photography and mixed media. Her work explores intimacy, memory, and identity.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at CLAMP Gallery, Transmitter Gallery, Bridge and Tunnel Gallery, Mixer Arts, Daire Gallery, ALAN Istanbul, BAU Gallery, the International Photography Festival, UFAT, and Les Rencontres d’Arles. Her solo exhibitions include Mini Çarşı – Mini Market at The Polygon Shooting Gallery in Turkey and Quite a While at SOHO20 Gallery in New York.

Korkmaz has participated in residencies and programs at Arquetopia in Mexico, Artistic Freedom Initiative ACN, the School of Visual Arts, and Residency Unlimited in New York. She presented Quite a While through a book launch and artist talk at the International Center of Photography (ICP) with Allen Frame.

Korkmaz has created and self-published photobooks including Quite a While, SILENCE, Schadenfreude, and Garip Bir Enerjin Var. Her work has been featured in Artforum, Musée Magazine, GQ, Art Unlimited, Artcritical, Voice of America, Milliyet, VATAN, The Guide Istanbul, and Elele.
