COMPASS Online - Summer School

The COMPASS Online: Summer School is an online programme aimed at creating community, supporting peer-learning and networking within the craft sector in Scotland while building practical skills and knowledge of financial planning.

Over the course of 8 weeks - from 18th June to 13th of August 2026 - we will engage with material from the COMPASS Online "Finance for Makers" course, together as a cohort.

Participants of the COMPASS Online Sumer School will access the course material independently and will then receive direct professional support from the course instructor David Crump, Head of Business Incubation at Cockpit Studios London, as well as being able to discuss, ask questions, reflect and support each other through online peer-sessions.

Financial planning is crucial for building a sustainable craft business and helping makers succeed in their ambitions. Participants will be guided by David to build a picture of their current business’ finances, set clear financial goals, make accurate predictions and informed decisions about where to focus their efforts. During the eight week programme makers will also have the chance to connect with other makers across Scotland and build a network of peer-support beyond the course.

  • Thursday 2nd July | 10am-12pm - First Online Tutorial Session with David Crump 
  • Thursday 16th July | 10am-3pm - Elective In-person meeting in Edinburgh: Visit to Earth Matters Inverleith House, lunch provided by Craft Scotland.
  • Thursday 30th July | 10am-12pm - Second Tutorial Session with David Crump 
  • Thursday 13th August | 10am-12pm - Final Online Peer-session online
