St Just : ‘Tin Coast Walking Tours’

Multiple dates and times

St Just - Plen-an-Gwary, TR197HZ

Description

Tin Coast Walking Tours offer three fun, unique and creative guided circular walks around West Penwith and the Tinners Way, visiting many fascinating and rare Cornish antiquities (each walk approximately 8 kilometres / 5 miles). Musician, Ben Sutcliffe from ‘The People’s String Foundation’ has teamed up with actor/storyteller Mary Woodvine to tell local myths and fables along the way.

Ben and Mary will sing and play Cornish folk music and educate about Cornwall’s rich history, past and present culture and thriving wildlife.
Starting at St. Just’s famous medieval performance space, the Plen-an-Gwary, this circular 7.1K guided walk with Ben and Mary heads to the Tin Coast via the Bronze Age tomb of Ballowall Barrow.
Experience spectacular sea views from Cape Cornwall just along the coast path and a visit to the ruins of the medieval chapel of St. Helen’s Oratory, the site of which has been used since Roman times.
The walk continues through the ancient mining district of Kenidjack Valley along one of Cornwall’s most treasured and well trodden paths - the Tinners Way, and leads to the headland where Kenidjack Castle (c. 400BC) once stood.
Just past the Castle’s foundations and a fascinating rifle range from the 1870’s explore the mysteries of a large cross marked in the stone above the treacherous cliffs before heading inland down an ancient path back to St. Just (and its many pubs!).
