LAST THURSDAY is our monthly get together: a chance to hear what's happening across Glasgow's creative and cultural sectors, get into venues you'd not usually see, and share your own work with a warm, welcoming crowd.

This September we're at City Halls with Glasgow CREATE, Glasgow City Council's Education Services Expressive Arts team, to look at what the 2026 changes to the Scottish curriculum mean for creative education in the city. Glasgow CREATE supports every primary, secondary and early years establishment in Glasgow across art and design, dance, drama, film and screen, music and music technology.

The afternoon opens with an introduction to Glasgow CREATE's work across the city, followed by three spotlight presentations:

YMI in Glasgow: music education as foundational for literacy, numeracy and wellbeing
Glasgow CREATE on the Youth Music Initiative in the city.

MAKE: developing accessible craft and making education resources for teachers
Lucy McEachan, Co-Director of Panel. MAKE is the flagship education project of Panel, an independent curatorial practice based in Glasgow. MAKE champions the teaching of craft and making skills and advocates for the explicit inclusion of craft in Scotland's education curriculum, working in partnership with schools, councils, cultural organisations and academics. makemanifesto.com

21Common: disruptive pedagogy, embedded artists and whole-school approaches to performance and dance education
Minnie Crook, Project Manager. Disruptive Pedagogy is 21Common's arts-based learning programme, creating a play-space within formal learning structures. It encourages active, on-your-feet learning through collaboration between young people, teachers, artists and the wider community, nurturing creativity, critical thinking and holistic development. 21common.org/disruptive-pedagogy

During the break there will be a chance to share what you're working on at the intersection of arts education and creative learning.

After, we work together around the tables on three questions:

• What opportunities and challenges do the changes to the Scottish curriculum present for Glasgow's creative sector?
• How can we foster more knowledge exchange and skills development between the creative and education sectors?
• How can the creative and education sectors work more closely and strategically together in Glasgow to meet the educational needs of children and young people?

Come along if you're an artist, creative practitioner, organisation or teacher working anywhere across creativity and learning! This event is free and open to all.
