Digging Deep - using community root systems to spread the word about your work

In a culture that is obsessed with forcing growth and achieving results we barely get to scratch the surface when exploring potential connections and synergies for our work and ideas. We invite you to slow down and spend a reflective morning contemplating ‘what would be different if I dug deeper’? This is exactly what Dan Sturrock, Manager of The Workshed, and Lisa Townsend, Marketeer & Project Manager, have in common: their love of connecting to local community to make ideas, business and projects flourish in their own sweet time.

You are invited to The Workshed, Liskeard to join Dan and Lisa in creating a seasonal centrepiece using natural materials foraged from The Workshed garden and surrounding area of The Old Cattle Market. You will get the chance to spend time reflecting on what you have made using creative journal prompts, take a tour of The Workshed building and facilities, network and ask any questions. They will gladly share their collective experiences of working in the Cornish creative sector and in social enterprise, and reflect on the community root system that they’ve been part of along the way.

About Dan and Lisa

Lisa Townsend has been working with community based organisations in Cornwall for over 15 years and has worked in many different roles, including Marketing, Finance, Volunteer Management, Community Engagement and Project Management. She has a hybrid working life, splitting her time between her employed role as Marketing Lead at intoBodmin and self-employed role as freelance Project and Marketing support. She values clear communication, collaborative working and cake with every meeting.

Daniel Sturrock manages the space at The Workshed, Liskeard – a purpose-built workspace built as part of the regeneration of Liskeard former cattle market which celebrated its first birthday last month. Daniel has a passion for nurturing spaces that encourage people to connect, create and thrive. Daniel uses nature to create attractive breakout spaces within the sites grounds, recently winning a Silver GILT award for The Workshed, awarded by Britain in Bloom.

Accessibility

The Workshed is located in the heart of Liskeard, a two minute walk from the town centre bus stop and 10 minute walk from Liskeard Train Station. There is a lockable cycle shed and visitor stands. The building is fully accessible, with wide doorways for wheelchair access, ground floor meeting room and disabled toilet facilities. Lisa has experience in working with, and running training for, people who identify as neurodivergent.

Pricing

This event is free for members of Creative Kernow Associates. There is a small fee of £5 for non-members, just to cover costs as the event is funded through membership fees.

CKA Mixers

CKA (Creative Kernow Associates) Mixer events are playful and informal happenings – a space for participants to connect and an opportunity for hosts to share their work and skills. 

The mixers are part of the programme of events for members of Creative Kernow Associates, a new membership programme for the creative and culture sectors in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and a legacy of Creative Kernow’s hugely successful EU-funded Cultivator programme. Members have access to exclusive opportunities, an extensive selection of resources, 1-to-1 support, a tailored programme of workshops and events, and special benefits offered by partner organisations.
