Artist Stuart Robinson will lead a session exploring how we can utilise 'obsolete' technology and found materials within art practise by manipulating 35mm photographic slides and sections of film. Through initial explorations of the provided materials using light boxes and projectors Stuart will lead a casual discussion of ideas around memory and archiving as well as how we capture and memorialise our own lives and practise.
A demonstration of various additive and destructive methods to directly affect and alter the slides will follow. This will include use of scratching, melting, cutting, colouring, collaging, layering, bleaching and more. The majority of the session will involve participants sitting around a table together, exploring the slides and experimenting with the above processes to create a series of 10+ unique works which can then be viewed through the provided projector.
A slide show of all the work created will bring the session to a close. A slide scanner will also be available to create high quality digital versions of the work.
