Narrative Improv workshop - with Liam Webber

Sun 22 Nov 2026 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Centre 151 - 151 Whiston Road, E2 8GU

Narrative improv asks us to balance two seemingly contradictory things: making bold, instinctive choices in the moment while working together to tell a satisfying story. Often, that means embracing one character as our protagonist and giving them the space to go on a journey. Not everyone gets equal stage time, and that's okay!

In this one-day workshop, we'll explore how to make strong story choices without getting stuck in our heads. We'll be putting protagonists through their paces and throwing challenges in their way. We'll discover how every character, relationship and unexpected choice can help the story sing, and how there's just as much fun to be found supporting someone else's journey as leading your own.

Come ready to embrace the spotlight, enjoy the supporting role, and find the fun in telling someone else's story.

Taught by Liam Webber

Liam is co-founder and director of the Robin Hood International Improv Festival in Nottingham, he has worked as  Festival Director for Improv Theatre Sydney and is a director and teacher for The Pretend Company alongside improv powerhouses Chris Mead and Ali James.

He is known for his joyful and mischievous style of play and has performed from New York to Copenhagen to Wellington and beyond.

As an improviser he has been influenced by a wide variety of schools of thought. A graduate of iO Chicago’s intensive programme, he’s worked with improvisers from all over the world, to Olivier award winning actors, to Gaulier clowns.

He was a cast member on ARIA award nominated radio show Dead British – an improvised history comedy show, his masked horror comedy show CRONE (★★★★ – Everything Theatre) got him shortlisted for the BBC New Comedy Award, and earlier this year he was a cast member on Let the Good Times Roll - a TTRPG actual play by Mammoth Factory Games.

On stage and in the classroom, Liam prioritises joy, connection, and creating just the right amount of chaos.
