Know the Score – An Interactive Talk on Substance Misuse

Cricket Leinster, in partnership with South Dublin County Council, Clondalkin Drug & Alcohol Task Force and CrossCare (Youth Agency), have come together to help and support Cricket clubs in understanding the challenges that youths & adults in our areas are facing regarding alcohol & drug misuse. We are all fully aware that the drug culture is ever changing, and we cannot be ignorant to the fact that it does not affect players & mentors in your respective clubs. Nobody is outside the “temptation of slipping onto this wrong path”.

This education & awareness initiative “Know the Score” has never been done through the official “Sports Club” structure and it is something we are very excited about.

We value the work volunteers do in the community, by helping to provide an outlet, where youths & adults are using sport as the medium to promote personal development, respect, and friendship in a safe sporting environment. This initiative is to help the club, the coaches, the volunteers, the parents & players be better informed and therefore be confident to help, should help be required.

We are running an interactive talk on Substance Misuse for all members and volunteers with the cricket clubs in the South Dublin County Council area: Adamstown CC, Clondalkin CC and Lucan CC. We also welcome Terenure CC as so many of their members are from the SDCC area. If you are interested in this online talk, please click the link to register. It is FREE. If you are not in these clubs you still welcome to attend as it will all be relevant information for anyone from any area.

Please contact Naomi on naomi.scotthawyard@cricketleinster.ie if you have any questions.

For more information on the Partners involved in this initiative, “Know the Score”, please see below.

Local Drugs Task Force:

Part of our work is to work with local groups around drug policies, drug awareness and education where an issue may have arisen in relation to suspicion of drug use or a preventative measure to prepare for if/when it may occur. Best practice shows that once off events like a once off drug talk with young people is not effective in terms of a reaction to suspected or confirmed drug use.

Cross Care:

Crosscare Youth Information Service is part of Crosscare Youth Services, aimed primarily at young people aged 15-25 years, we provide information on a broad variety of areas and issues. We give time & space to come, talk & get support, we actively listen and help explore the situation and identify the issue presented. We give information and options that best suit the youth involved, make sense of the information at hand, and support them to take the next step.

South Dublin County Council – Sports Office:

We are committed to developing Sport within the administrative area of South Dublin County Council. This development can take many forms, be it facility development, club development, grassroots development across a broad range of sports, as well as working with NGB providing Development Officers in our communities. This new initiative “Know the Score” is to further assist & support the voluntary work carried out in sports clubs across our communities
