Making disaster resilience accessible

Tue Oct 20, 2026 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM 113 Taranaki Street, Te Aro, Wellington

Preparation is the key to handing disasters big and small, and disabled people are often left out of disaster preparedness planning. This oversight threatens lives. In this disabled-led workshop, Katie shares how her experiences working in some of the most extreme environments on earth- from the stormy Southern Ocean to managing live events during a global pandemic- has provided a foundation for accessible disaster planning. Explore practical preparation tools, practices and knowledge that fosters resilience, creativity, and confidence, and learn how planning for accessibility in disaster management is better for everyone. people are often left out of disaster preparedness planning.
