Join us on Thursday 26th March to discuss Humans for Rights Network's recently published report, 'You Can't Stay, but You Can't Go': State Violence at the UK-France Border. The report finds that violence is an intentional structural element of the securitisation of the UK-France border. The UK government funds a proportion of this violence and instigates violent policies through bilateral agreements with France as part of their increasing border securitisation. Since 2018, the UK government has pledged at least 763.4 million euros to the French government to ‘secure’ the border.
This event offers a chance to hear about the reality of the UK's border policies from experts working on both sides of the UK-France border as well as people with lived experience of border violence. This urgent situation is crucially linked to other developments in the UK asylum system, and the event will also feature discussion of how the UK asylum sector can respond and proactively advocate and campaign for solutions to the harms caused by the border.
Project Play France will also present their research on the specific impacts of border violence against children. Project Play and Humans for Rights Network are currently running a public campaign Stop Border Violence: Public Inquiry Now and this event will explain why this campaign is important and what you can do to support it.
The event will take place from 5:30-7pm in person in London and online. The in person venue is wheelchair accessible. For more information, please contact lily@humansforrightsnetwork.com.
