Animating Antiracist Ways of Being

Animating Antiracist Ways of Being was previously known as the Introduction to Systemic Racism or Introduction to Antiracism

Overview:

Many organizations are committed to being welcoming and inclusive. Yet their good intentions consistently fall short because they miss a critical dynamic: institutions often become dominated by values and practices that actively prevent inclusion—even when leaders genuinely want the opposite. This workshop introduces participants to the ways of being that drive antiracist transformation and explores both the values that hinder change and those that make it possible. This workshop in combination with the Values Gap workshop serves as a prerequisite to Toward Liberation: Building Shared Analysis to Transform Institutions.

Outcomes:

Participants in Crossroads’ Animating Antiracism workshop will:

  • Develop a foundational understanding of antiracism and its requirements for institutional transformation
  • Explore ongoing systemic approaches necessary to dismantle racial injustice at institutional and societal levels

Pre-requisite Learning

This is a Foundational workshop designed to teach the core ideas behind Crossroads' work. Anyone can attend – no prior experience or knowledge is required. These workshops are designed for people who are new to this work, people who want a refresher on Crossroads' approach, and groups who want to build a common understanding together.

Workshop Delivery

This four-hour workshop utilizes group conversation and individual reflection, as well as applied practice of frameworks introduced to provide participants with both knowledge and experience. Crossroads’ unique analysis provides a place to start or deepen work for institutions committed to institutional transformation.

Why do we require registration?

  • To create a safe and confidential space for all participants, everyone must complete registration.
  • Previous attendance at Crossroads workshops doesn't automatically grant access to new digital workshops. Each workshop requires its own registration to protect the privacy of all participants.

Accessing Digital Workshops - Technical Requirements

  • Zoom account required – All participants must have a registered Zoom account to maintain a secure and confidential space.
  • Use a computer for the best experience – We strongly recommend joining from a laptop or desktop. While you can access the workshop on a tablet or phone, you'll have limited ability to use all interactive features and shared workspaces.

What to Know Before Registering

Multiple dates are listed for your convenience, but you only need to register for one session.

Arrival & Attendance

  • Arrive on time – You must join before we complete the Community Agreements Process (usually within the first 30 minutes). Late arrivals cannot be admitted to protect the group's confidentiality.
  • Stay for the full workshop – We ask all participants to attend from beginning to end. Moving in and out of the workshop isn't permitted, as it disrupts the shared experience.
  • We understand technical issues happen and that remote work has its challenges—we're happy to accommodate these situations. However, if facilitators notice ongoing disengagement that isn't communicated, participants may be removed from the session.

Breaks & Self-Care

  • Workshops over under 6 hours – Include regular stretch and self-care breaks
  • Workshops 6+ hours – Include regular stretch and self-care breaks and a 60-minute lunch break

Before the Workshop

  • Review policies – Please read the complete workshop and cancellation policies at the bottom of the registration form and in your confirmation email
