Overview

Making a public commitment to being a diverse, welcoming, inclusive, and just institution while not easy is only the beginning. The real test comes when that commitment faces pressure, conflict, or crisis. Like many organizations, Crossroads learned this lesson the hard way. We discovered that good intentions and symbolic gestures aren't enough—we needed to examine the deeper values shaping our culture and practices. Through this difficult work, we recognized the need to assess our values as these either hinder change, harming relationships or create the conditions for meaningful transformation and healthy relationships across lines of difference. This workshop shares what we learned from our own journey and provides participants with tools to examine the values operating within their organizations. You'll learn to distinguish between values that look good on paper and values that can truly sustain your commitment when tested. This workshop in combination with the Animating Antiracism workshop serves as a prerequisite to Toward Liberation: Building Shared Analysis to Transform Institutions.

Outcomes

Participants in Crossroads’ Values Gap workshop will deepen their capacity to:

  • Identify values that actively hinder change and damage relationships
  • Distinguish values that facilitate sustainable transformation and relational repair
  • Assess how their organization's values perform under pressure or conflict
  • Examine their own institutional practices through a values-based lens
  • Develop strategies for aligning stated commitments with lived values

Prerequisite Learning

This is a Foundational workshop designed to teach the core ideas behind Crossroads' work. These workshops are designed for people who are new to this work, people who want a refresher on Crossroads' approach, and groups who want to build a common understanding together. Why do we require registration?

To create a safe and confidential space for all participants, everyone must complete registration—even if you're selecting the $0 option. Please note: Previous attendance at Crossroads workshops doesn't automatically grant access to new digital workshops. Each workshop requires its own registration to protect the privacy of all participants.

Accessing Digital Workshops - Technical Requirements

  • Zoom account required – All participants must have a registered Zoom account to maintain a secure and confidential space.
  • Use a computer for the best experience – We strongly recommend joining from a laptop or desktop. While you can access the workshop on a tablet or phone, you'll have limited ability to use all interactive features and shared workspaces.

What to Know Before Registering

Multiple dates are listed for your convenience, but you only need to register for one session.

Arrival & Attendance

Arrive on time – You must join before we complete the Community Agreements Process (usually within the first 30 minutes). Late arrivals cannot be admitted to protect the group's confidentiality.

Stay for the full workshop – We ask all participants to attend from beginning to end. Moving in and out of the workshop isn't permitted, as it disrupts the shared experience.

We understand technical issues happen and that remote work has its challenges—we're happy to accommodate these situations. However, if facilitators notice ongoing disengagement that isn't communicated, participants may be removed from the session.

Breaks & Self-Care

  • Workshops over under 6 hours – Include regular stretch and self-care breaks
  • Workshops 6+ hours – Include regular stretch and self-care breaks and a 60-minute lunch break

Before the Workshop

  • Review policies – Please read the complete workshop and cancellation policies at the bottom of the registration form and in your confirmation email
