Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at Wellington College Chapel Crowthorne

Nine Lessons and Carols 2023   Please note that chapel doors open at 7.15 PM however the service commences at 7.30 PM . We anticipate the service length to be 90 minutes with the wine reception finishing at 10 PM for those joining us after the service .

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a service traditionally celebrated near Christmas Eve. It is the story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus. The story is told by 9 readings interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols, hymns, and choir anthems.

This year we are again proud to have Revd Laura Wheatley Downs conducting the service with Karen Phillips, Director of Music, and The Cecilia Singers supported by Organist Stewart McSweeney. They will create the Spirit of Christmas in the traditional way.

The service takes place in the magnificent Chapel of the Holy Spirit whose foundation stone was laid by in 1861 by HRH Prince  Albert and built by 1863

Thank you in advance for your support this year and we again invite you to also join us after the service to celebrate the season of goodwill with a mince pie and wine reception. 

To obtain your ticket an adult entrance donation of £10 is payable by debit or credit card via our PAYPAL account on Ticket Tailor. A limited number of donation-free tickets are available for those under 18 with an adult. Please note that doors open at 7.15 PM however the service commences at 7.30 PM .

Car parking is provided within the College's grounds. Directions to the Chapel will be given by a Rotarian and the College Security Team when entering Wellington College, Dukes Ride, Berkshire, Crowthorne, RG45 7PU.
