Life can feel like it’s always moving at full speed. Work, responsibilities, the state of the world, and the pull to be busy, busy, busy.
It can be hard to keep the initiative and stay in the driving seat of our lives. It's easy to end up feeling like we’re in a rut, unsure what we're doing. Meanwhile deep down, we know there’s more to us and more to life than this.
This weekend is about creating freedom, creativity and authenticity in our lives. Guided by experienced Buddhist teachers, we’ll be exploring the “three fetters,” a key teaching on what binds us to a life that is unfulfilling, stagnant, or outright miserable. They help us answer important questions: What holds us back from feeling really, deeply alive? How can we break those chains and be more free? How can we stay not only sane, but inspired in our everyday lives?
Join us for a weekend well spent, with the emphasis on practical teachings you can apply to your actual life.
Why go on an urban retreat?
This urban retreat will give you the chance to leave the busyness of the world behind for a weekend and connect with something more meaningful. This is a great opportunity to explore ancient Buddhist teachings, resource yourself to face the world and get a fresh perspective on your life.
The retreat takes place at the Croydon Buddhist Centre and is suitable for everyone interested in Buddhism and living an authentic life. It’s a great introduction to Buddhism and meditation, or an excellent opportunity to deepen your existing practice. If you haven't been on retreat before, or residential retreats are not available to you, this is a great opportunity to experience retreat conditions.
If you have any questions, please contact our team on info@buddhistcentrecroydon.org.
Retreat structure
On an urban retreat we spend the weekend at the Centre and go home for the night. During the day we meditate together in the shrine room, listen to Dharma teachings, share meals and have inspiring discussions.
Friday: Evening meal and opening session - 6.30pm to 9.00pm
Saturday: Full day on retreat at the Centre - 10.00am to 9.00pm
Sunday: Final session, clear up and closing the retreat - 10.00am to 3.00pm
What does this retreat cost?
All our classes offering Buddhist teaching are by donation, because we believe that the Buddha's teachings should be freely given. We recommend a donation of £160 (waged) / £120 (unwaged) for this retreat, but we welcome you however much you can afford to give. Please note that all donations are non-refundable.
