Join us Thursday 13th August at 19:00 for a film screening of Cuba after Castro: An island in the crosshairs.

In the first American interview with Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canal, the film explores the history of the Cuban revolution, the turbulent current situation, and a portrait of the man tasked with steering its future.

Due to the current oil and economic blockade in Cuba, we in East London are raising funds for Cuba Vive. Cuba Vive fundraises to send containers of medical supplies and now food to Cuba, as requested by the Cuban health workers union (SNTS) and the Ministry of Health. Cuba Vive has sent over £1.3 million worth of medical aid to Cuba, as well as 74 tonnes of food aid back in May.

With the US invasion of Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Maduro, it removed the primary supply of oil to Cuba as well as threatening any country supplying oil to Cuba with economic sanctions. The lack of oil has caused widespread blackouts affecting many areas of Cuban society such as healthcare, sanitation, transportation, education and the tourism industry. As the US continues its bid for regime change, they continue to add sanctions and send threats of military action. It's critical we support Cuba’s fight for its sovereignty and as José Martí said Homeland is Humanity.

The event profits will be donated to Cuba Vive, going towards life saving medical and food aid.
