Sustainable digital communications for cultural organisations

Thu 23 Oct 2025 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM BST Online, Zoom

WEBINAR POSTPONED FROM 25 SEPTEMBER.

Join us for an insightful session and discussion to help your organisation build knowledge about sustainable digital communications. This is part of a broader theme of sustainability in communications for cultural organisations. In June, we hosted an event on communicating about your environmental actions. You can watch the recording on Vimeo.

About this webinar

We will provide a short introduction to our new guide about sustainable digital communications, followed by Jane McDevitt and Richard Claxton at Maraid Design, a web design studio, as well as KD, our Communications Manager at Culture for Climate Scotland (CCS). Jane, Richard and KD will give us insight into what it took for CCS’s new website to attain an A+ for sustainability. They’ll cover: Maraid’s journey to building sustainable sites, why CCS needed a sustainable website, how they worked together to achieve it and some top tips on how you can do it too. KD will also touch on wider sustainable digital communications.

We will then hear from Louise Briggs, who is a Curator at Travelling Gallery. Travelling Gallery is a visual arts organisation that curates experimental, diverse and inclusive exhibitions that are representative of Scotland’s changing population. Travelling Gallery is a member of the Green Arts Initiative. Louise will discuss some of the practical actions they have taken to improve their sustainable digital communications, as well as the challenges they are facing.

There will be time for questions to our speakers throughout the session.

Maraid is a web design studio that creates sustainable and accessible websites. Co-founders, Jane and Richard, have extensive experience working in the arts and with cultural organisations.

Travelling Gallery is a contemporary art gallery, that has been bringing exhibitions to communities throughout Scotland since 1978, in a bus.

Please familiarise yourself with the guide 'Guide to sustainable digital communications' before the event.

Why should I attend?

To learn more about sustainable digital communications, to get inspired and to explore how to take action within your cultural organisation.

What's on the agenda?

We will start by sharing an overview of the new guide before hearing some practical insights. This event will have plenty of time for questions and discussion. This session does not require active engagement, and it will be possible to simply listen in. However, we welcome and encourage discussion on the topic.

Time: 2pm–3:30pm

Date: Thursday 23 October

Location: Online

The workshop will take place on Zoom (captions available).

We will record this event.

Do you need support to attend this event?

We know that it’s sometimes difficult for everyone to attend because of unintended barriers. We want to make any necessary adjustments to our events so that no one is excluded. These adjustments will, most likely, differ from event to event so we need your help to get it right.

Please inform us of your accessibility requirements for this event during the Ticket Tailor registration process or get in touch by email at romane.boyer@cultureforclimate.scot.

Everyone is welcome at our events.

'Sustainable digital communications' is part of a series of webinars designed for Scottish cultural organisations, especially our Green Arts Initiative members and signatories to the Green Arts Charter.

Previously, we hosted webinars such as communicating about your environmental actions and digital carbon emissions for Scottish cultural organisations.
