Evaluating arts-climate projects

Wed 12 Nov 2025 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM GMT Online, Zoom

We know that projects that use arts-based methods to address climate change issues can be immensely valuable. But it can feel difficult to find evaluation methods for arts-climate projects that are rigorous but sensitive to the forms of value that arts-based work offers and the complexity of the systems we are trying to shift.

This online workshop session will explore effective ways of evaluating arts-climate projects, drawing on the findings from embedded researcher Emma Hall's four-year PhD research project with Culture for Climate Scotland (CCS). We will share Emma Hall’s evaluation framework, discuss what a values-led and complexity-appropriate approach to evaluation looks like, and work through an exercise to understand how you can use this approach in your own work.

The event will involve a mixture of presentation from CCS staff and active discussion with attendees, including:

  • A presentation on the evaluation framework, including the underlying principles and how these are applied in practice
  • Examples of effective evaluation methods from arts-climate projects
  • Space for discussion and knowledge sharing between attendees
  • An exercise looking at your own evaluation approaches with an opportunity to get feedback from CCS staff

We will only record the presentations from CCS staff, with recording turned off for discussion sections. There will be captions available on Zoom.

You do not need to prepare anything in advance of the workshop, but you may find it useful to take a look at the culture/SHIFT evaluation framework, which we are basing the workshop on.

Do you need support to attend?

Everyone is welcome at our events.

We know that it’s sometimes difficult for everyone to attend because of unintended barriers. We want to make any necessary adjustments to our events so that no one is excluded. These adjustments will, most likely, differ from event to event so we need your help to get it right. Please inform us of your accessibility requirements for this event during the  registration process or get in touch by email lewis.coenen-rowe@cultureforclimate.scot if you would like to provide more information or ask any questions.
