Green Tease: Living well locally

Thu 27 Nov 2025 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM North Edinburgh Arts, EH4 4AB

Join us at North Edinburgh Arts to understand how cultural activities can contribute to creating sustainable and regenerative communities. In particular, we’ll explore the role of culture in 20-minute neighbourhoods – creating walkable and wheelable places where everyone can access their daily needs.

The morning session will be an introduction to pre-existing place-based work in Scotland. Lesley-Anne Rose will share her reflections on the importance of culture in place planning and community work, Pippa Cook will introduce the Place Standard Tool and Rebecca Dillon-Robinson will outline the policies supporting local living and 20-minute neighbourhoods in Scotland.

At 12pm, we’ll break for a shared lunch of soup and sandwiches.

The afternoon session will involve creative mapping of Granton and the places where participants live and/or work. This is an opportunity for participants to reflect on how culture can support sustainable development or regeneration in their communities. We’ll end the afternoon by developing a toolkit incorporating culture into placemaking.

About our collaborators

At SPRINGBOARD 2023, Culture for Climate Scotland provided the opportunity for a group of interested people to discuss the role of culture in placemaking and the development of 20-minute neighbourhoods. The cross-disciplinary cohort included people from the fields of culture and placemaking, with connections to the Scottish Government and the City of Edinburgh Council. The ‘Living Well Locally’ group has been meeting since and has convened two workshops. We have collaborated with the following members of Living Well Locally to organise this Green Tease:

About Green Tease

Green Tease is culture/SHIFT's ongoing informal events programme connecting cultural practices and environmental sustainability across Scotland. Since 2013 Green Tease has provided a platform for those interested in teasing out the links between the arts, climate change and environmental sustainability through the exchange of ideas, knowledge and practices. Green Tease events are open to people from creative and environmental backgrounds and free to attend.

Do you need support to attend?

Everyone is welcome at our events.

We know that it’s sometimes difficult for everyone to attend because of unintended barriers. We want to make any necessary adjustments to our events so that no one is excluded. These adjustments will, most likely, differ from event to event and person to person, so we need your help to get it right.

Please inform us of your accessibility requirements for this event during the registration process or get in touch by emailing eleanor.white@cultureforclimate.scot if you would like to provide more information or ask any questions.

You’ll understand that some adjustments may take more time to arrange than others, so we appreciate you giving us as much notice as possible about what you need so that we can support you to get the most out of this event.
