Course Outline:

A series of one day conferences and an online afternoon, where heads and acting heads new to both Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness will learn about systems in Cumbria, gain support, build networks and understand the skills required to begin a successful career. The programme spans the academic year and delegates are welcome to join in at any time; before, during and after their appointment.

Course A will cover: ‘An introduction and welcome to headship in Cumbria’ There will be opportunities to meet other new and acting head teachers and the planning team and hear about the programme for the year. Our guest speakers will be some headteachers with a variety of experience, who will each share 5 things they wished they had known when they started out. We will present ‘What to do when’ – an overview of the academic year and what happens when, and how to hold onto what really matters in all the busyness of school life. We will also include some top tips on ensuring safeguarding in school meets requirements.
