Body of the State is an urgent solo performance piece, created and performed by Francis Miller, that explores one person’s pursuit of gender-affirming care, theatricalizing their experience of gender, bureaucracy, community and how it feels to exist in a body that is regulated and legislated by their own government. In Body of the State, the audience is given control of Miller’s performance and body as they wield the familiar and formidable tool of American legislature and healthcare: paperwork.

The Labyrinth Club is located at 3658 N Pulaski Ave, just north of Addison Ave in the Irving Park neighborhood. Street parking is usually available on Pulaski and some surrounding streets. The venue is 0.5 miles south of the Irving Park Blue Line station, and 0.2 miles west of the Addison Blue Line station. Labyrinth Arts is a first-floor space with an accessible entrance, no stairs, and one single-stall restroom; the restroom doorway is slightly smaller than ADA standard, and may be difficult for some wheelchairs to navigate.

Note: Labyrinth is a private club, rather than a public venue; visitors will be asked to sign a guestbook on entering, which confers a 24-hour membership at the club. There is no extra fee. For more information: https://www.labyrinthartsperformance.com/

All tickets are offered on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale, with a suggested donation of $20. Beverages will be offered for purchase at the box office.
