For July's book club, we'll be reading Agnieszka Szpila's novel, Hexes of the Deadwood Foresttranslated by Scotia Gilroy.

ICYMI: We’re switching up how the book club works a little bit — the book is now included with your ticket! Book your spot online, and we’ll pop a copy of the book aside for you to come in and collect when it’s convenient.

A jaw-dropping debut about a woman who loses her job as an oil company CEO after she's filmed having sex with a tree in her sleep, an act that spirals her through history until she's united with a centuries-old coven of revolutionary women.

"You're holding a torpedo of a book in your hand. Take a seat and get comfortable. This novel's energy, humour and rebel spirit will awaken your mind and change your way of thinking." Olga Tokarczuk

Your ticket includes small batch, natural sodas from Mischief Brew and snacks, and a $2 donation to Literacy For Life, a First Nations-run charity training local people to deliver literacy classes in their communities.

Book club tickets are non-refundable. 10% off runs for the month preceding the meet-up. Store gift cards cannot be used for events (yet!).

Reading and writing on the unceded land of the Turrbal and Yuggera peoples. We respect and acknowledge Elders past and present, and all First Nations storytellers. Every story on our shelves sits alongside the world’s oldest living stories, reminding us that stories are not just read, but also lived and passed on.
