We look forward to welcoming you.

Context

The project Co-developing Art Technologies for more inclusive Visual Art Spaces was built upon CVAN London members calling for the development of knowledge and skills on how to enable equity and inclusion in art spaces and working environments. It aimed to respond to this need of more equitable visual art environments by creating an active and focused working group to examine more deeply the issues arising within arts spaces and working environments from the point of view of neurodivergent artists and arts organisations. Our objective was to co-develop art technologies to rebalance the inequalities and remake the visual arts sector fair and equitable. We focused on improving studio environments utilised by our neurodivergent participants, as well as opening up access to exhibition spaces. Our objective was to begin the process for developing art technologies to provide agency to neurodivergent artists.

The project brought together ActionSpace, Acme, Studio Voltaire, Cockpit Arts, and Space Studios, artists based in these centres, and colleagues in conversation from Autograph and Cockpit Arts.

Our sincere thanks go to Sheryll Catto, Charlotte Hollinshead, Eline van der List, Karen Davies, Lea O’Loughlin, Jon Opie, Jonathan Burton, Livvy Murdoch, Joe Scotland, Nicola Wright, and Dot Zhihan Jia for making this project possible, and to all the participating artists for their invaluable contributions: Jonathan Huxley, Paul Savage, Judith Walker, Pete Gomes, Godelive Kasangati Kabena, Kinska, Memei, Sam Winston, Nigel Ellis, Emmanuelle Walker, Thompson Hall, and Babajide Brian.
